“We die. That may be the meaning of life.
But we do language.
That may be the measure of our lives.”

our vision

an end to
postcolonial prescriptivism…

What is “proper English”? And who determines how it is spoken?
Lo-Fi approaches our instruction and curriculum design from a descriptivist lens: teaching students and teachers alike to encounter realistic speaking and listening scenarios outside of academia. This means deconstructing notions that English revolves around any one accent or functional context - and embracing Global Englishes!

A BEginning to
global careers…

Maybe you want to turn a hobby into something more. Maybe you have a creative project to share with the world. Or maybe you want to teach your craft as you hone your talents in a new environment. No matter the case, Lo-Fi empowers participants of our program to enter the global job market as a capable cultural ambassador.

the global strength of street knowledge!

Every program offered by Lo-Fi hearkens back to the Five Pillars of Hip-Hop: the verbal arts of the emcee, the sound mastery of the DJ, the kinesthetic intelligence of the breakers, the aesthetic visual innovations of the graffiti artists, and - most of all - the knowledge of the OG’s before us. This integration guides us to aid artists and educators in any genre!

Inquirers often ask us:

“How exactly do you integrate hip-hop into your curriculum designs?”

Our answer?

The Irie/Miyagi formula - based on your favorite program director’s greatest inspirations. Using the Five Pillars of Hip-Hop to train the four language skills, we encourage all fellow educators and supporters to adopt this “open source classroom code” and give it a whirl!
